My name is Lydia. I'm 23 years old, married, and I live in Toronto.
I was a preacher's kid for most of my childhood and adolescence- the churches my parents pastored tended to be non-denominational or Charismatic/Pentecostal, although there were a few exceptions to this rule.
Last summer I became the Associate Faith Editor at theooze.com.
I've been writing poetry, short stories and essays since grade school. About six months ago I started working on my first novel, although my progress on it has been nearly nonexistent lately for a few different reasons: the job search has been taking up a great deal of my time, and I've also been having some difficulty communicating with and understanding the motives of the main character in the story.

To be honest, Gina, I don't remember exactly what the inspiration was for my poem. I know that at the time I was attending a church that had some pretty traditional views on the bible and gender roles, but I can't think of any specific incidences that might have led to that poem.
I came across The Ooze about six years ago from a link at a (now-defunct) message board/website called re:generation.
How did you find The Ooze?

My book is the story of a teenage pastor's daughter who is struggling with issues related to her faith and sexual orientation.
No, it isn't autobiographical, but I have drawn on some my own experiences (as well as the experiences of friends) for certain elements of the story.
I'm having trouble with the main character - she's turning out to be a darker person than I wanted her to be.
She's not dark in a malicious way....just emotionally and spiritually conflicted in many different ways. I was hoping to write a more upbeat character, but She's not cooperating. ;)
